HOW TO GET THE BEST FROM YOUR CONNECTION
If your browsing or downloading speed is less than expected, make sure you do not have any Spyware
programs installed on your computer.
Spywares are programs created to gather information about the Internet habits and the most frequent
actions of an Internet user, to create focused advertising campaigns and sell the gathered
information to marketing agencies.
In most cases (e. g. Gator or Bonzibuddy), the user does not know the actual function of these
programs when they install themselves, nor does know they were installed at all. Many freely
downloadable programs get sponsorships by including non-documented spyware in their Setup
applications (e.g. Kazaa, FlashGet, DivX Pro...).
AD-Aware is the best known among the programs created to identify and remove Spywares from the
user's computer.
AD-aware (link:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/), created by
LavaSoft, is an application that detects spyware and cookies (these too are created to gahther
information about the user's actions, and are saved without notice on the user's pc when entering
some websites) and removes them from Windows without any damage for the operating system.
These same spyware programs use the same upload channel as Netsystem services to send the
information gathered, thus interfering with the performance and speed of the satellite connection.
Therefore Netsystem advices its clients to download AD-aware and perform a complete scanning of
their operating system. Tests demonstrated that in most cases browsing and downolading performances
have improved.
A short but complete documentation about the use of AD-aware will soon be online.
LOGIN AND PASSWORD
I lost my username and password to connect to the Internet. How can I do?
You can get your username and password only by sending an email request to
servizioclienti@netsystem.com,
including the email address and the MAC ADDRESS registered in your profile.
If You have lost your password, but you remember your username and MAC ADDRESS, you can get the password back
by visiting this page.
SATELLITE CONNECTION PERFORMANCE
I've just activated a SAT ADSL subscription, but when I look at the connection icon in the tray-bar,
I don't see a 300kbps report. Moreover, when I download some files and I take consideration of my internet
browser speed report, I never reach a 300 value. Why?
The tray-bar icon shows the modem connection bandwidth (Analogue or ISDN) used to support the satellite
download. For that reason, it indicates the telephone line bandwidth only. Moreover, please note that all
speeds shown by the Internet browser interface (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Opera...)
are expressed in kilobyte per second (KB/s), far different from kilobit per second (Kb/s). Considering that
the rate between byte and bit is 1:8, dealing with a 10kB/s and a 80kb/s download is the same thing.
A good report of the download speed, is offered by the Sky Tool software in the statistics area near the UC PID
line.
Finally, please note that all Netsystem services specification are expressed in kb/s (kbps).
DIGITAL TV
I've just installed the latest driver version downloaded from Netsystem website. Now, when I open
the Digital TV a registration request appears. What can I do?
To view the Digital TV channels, You must have registered your DVB card to Netsystem and You must use the .reg
file You received when you finished the registration process. If you have lost it, you can send an email request
to servizioclienti@netsystem.com, you will
soon get a new one.
CONNECTION SHARING, ROUTER
I've subscribed a SAT ADSL service, and I should share the internet connection through all clients in my LAN.
I use a Router too. How can I do?
To share the SAT ADSL connection in a LAN network, it is necessary to use the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)
service on the computer where the DVB card takes place.
Windows 2000 and Windows Xp Operating Systems support a connection sharing by activating the ICS in the network
properties panel. Unfortunately, Windows 98Se and Windows Millenium Edition Operating System need a further
gateway software to be installed.
Furthermore, SAT ADSL services allow the presence of a router, but as these services are VPN based,
it has to be configured properly. VPN connections use the 1723 port, assigned by default to the PPTP service
(Point to Point Tunneling Protocol): on this port, You have to enable the TCP, UDP and ICMP inbound and outbound
packets and the GRE protocol (also known as protocol 47).
Please note, that PPTP is not supported by all routers, and some versions require enhanced skills in the networking area.
Correct setting instructions are usually included in the router user's guides.
SATELLITE SIGNAL
My satellite system can receive the Eurobird signal, as I can view the Digital TV channels, but when
I connect to SAT ADSL service the Sky Server icon becomes red and it says "No signal". What happened?
The Sky Server icon color reveals the satellite signal presence. If it turns to red during a SAT ADSL connection,
it means that your satellite system is not able to receive any signal from the data transponder frequency.
This eventuality could happen even if the signal strength is good while You are watching the Digital TV, so, please
call your Satellite System technician and make sure that Your dish receives correctly the following:
- Frequency: 11746 Mhz
- Symbol Rate: 27500 Ks/s
- Polarity: Horizontal Left (High)
Please note that Sat ADSL connection and Digital TV cannot be used at the same time.
FTP, PASSIVE MODE
When I'm using the SAT ADSL I cannot connect to any FTP server. Why?
The particular architecture of a satellite Internet connection forbids the usual FTP client connection,
and requires a simple further setting: to avoid this problem, You just have to set the PASSIVE MODE on your
FTP client: you can do it in a couple of ways.
If you are using Internet Explorer, You have to open the Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced menu and
then check the "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem capatibility)" option.
If, instead, you are using a different FTP client, you face two different instances: the first when the
client has a graphic interface and the PASSIVE MODE is reachable as a menu option to check, the second
when the used FTP client has a textual mode prompt (terminal) and the PASSIVE MODE can be generally
activated by using the PASV command.
Please note that the PASV command is often used during the connection between a client and a FTP site behind
a Firewall.
NEWSGROUP
When I connect to SAT ADSL I cannot download any of my favourite newsgroup. Why?
NNTP server (Newsgroup server) access is guaranteed by the Internet Service Provider You are using, according
to the ISP policies.
According to the fact that, when You connect to the SAT ADSL Your IP address changes, the NNTP server access
is forbidden by Your provider: in order to solve this problem, we suggest you to search the Internet for
some free NNTP servers.
EMAIL
While using SAT ADSL I cannot send any email using my mail software. Why?
Most of the ISP offers contain a free email service whose SMTP server is set to work only with the same
ISP connection, according to the ISP policies (in order to avoid any spamming illegal use).
When the Netsystem connection is working, your ISP doesn't identify your IP address and then forbids any email
forwarding through the SMTP server.
To solve this problem, just change the used SMTP server into: SMTP.NETSYSTEM.COM in Your mail client interface.

DOWNLOAD MANAGERS
Before making a subscription, I was using a download manager software. May I use it again?
Of course, some download manager software (such as Flash-Get, for instance) let the file to download to be split
in several parts, treating each instance as a single download (this happens in automatic way, however the user can
choose to increase the split number). This procedure often improves heavily the download performance. Let's take
an example that better explains how a download manager works and let's suppose to download an MP3 song: without
using any download manager, the download speed would be reduced by our connection speed limit and by the available
bandwidth set by the server we are downloading from. Let's suppose also that our download limit is set to 300Kbps
and that remote server allows 100Kbps download for each connected user. In this instance we understand that the
maximum speed will be capped at 100Kbps set by the server side limitation. Instead, using a download manager
software, splitting the song into three equal parts, we will get three different downloads running at 100Kbps,
giving us a total speed of 300Kbps. At the end, the download management software will paste the three parts
together. For this reason, a download manager is always useful, for its bandwidth optimizing features, and by
overcoming many server side limitations.
